I’m going to get one of those one day…
Well no more dreaming for you! Even you can achieve this goal! Read my guide and find out the best way(s) to achieve 99 woodcutting.
The first steps and preparations
Don’t understand me wrong, but getting a 99 skill in general will take an immense amount of time and effort. To start (and complete) this goal you must answer “yes”, to the following questions.
1: Do I got enough time?
2: Do I really want to complete this goal whatever it takes?
3: Do I have a good woodcutting level to start with?
But what IS a good woodcutting level to start with?. Well yes that’s a good question…As you may already know the amount of exp you need for 99 woodcutting is a bit more then 13 million exp. You may think, “I’m lvl 50! I’m halfway already!”. Well guess what…On lvl 50 you only have 101,333 exp. You are halfway when you are about lvl 92!
I really recommend you start at level 74+.

When you made the decision to go for 99 woodcutting you can start making the right preparations. Which are not much….
The first thing you need is an woodcutting axe. That’s quite obvious isn’t it?
The best thing to do is to buy a dragon woodcutting axe. But for many players this is too expensive.
But don’t worry! You can easily get 99 WC with a rune axe! I will explain this later on.
Note: A rune axe is the minimal requirement, anything lower then this is not recommended.
Anyway… When you got your axe you can start making a plan.
Where will I cut? And what sort of tree will I cut?
The majority of players that go for 99 WC has a choice of 2 trees. Yews and willows. Both trees have there down and up sides.
Yews:
+ Good money making (1k yews = 300-400k)
- Less Experience
- Not much bird nests
Willows
+ More experience
+ Lots of bird nests
- Less cash (1k = 25-30k)
Personally I think willows are the best to do until 90-95. The money you earn may be less but you get a great exp rate ( 20-40k exp per hour). You also get a lot of bird nests. Don’t forget that bird nest can contain very valuable tree seeds! You can get a magic seed which is over 150k!
When you reach 95 and you have a dragon woodcutting axe you can get about the same/more exp per hour with cutting yews.
I also noticed that at a certain level you don’t cut willows any faster. You don’t really notice the difference between a dragon woodcutting axe and a rune woodcutting axe at a high level. A dragon woodcutting axe is very useful for yews and magic trees though.
Some people say that yews are faster then willows from about level 70. I totally disagree with this. Yews are one of the most demanded items on Runescape. The yew trees are almost always full of players already cutting there. You will lose valuable time of waiting for a new tree to respawn and it may also frustrate you.
Note: Magic trees give very slow exp and it is not advised to get 99 with magic trees.

There are many places where you can cut trees.
Only some of them are worthy enough for someone like you ;).
The best 3 places to cut willows to 99.
Draynor
One of the most popular spots to cut willows in f2p. You can also cut here in p2p if you want.
Score 8/10
Barbarian Outpost/Assault
Well this is my favorite. The amount of people here is small (It is getting more popular these days and you may need to switch worlds to find an empty spot) and the walk to the bank is also short! Note that you can only deposit items here in a deposit box. You cannot access your bank.

South-West of Catherby
Most of the time its empty. Its not really popular because the walk to the bank is a bit far. Its still a good spot to 99 though.

The best places to cut yews
West of Catherby, South of the beehives.
The most popular place to cut yews due to the amount of yews here. Its very crowded most of the time. The walk to the bank is reasonable.
Score 8/10
Seers village church yard.
Also a reasonable good spot. Its not a good idea to cut here when its crowded due to the fact that there are only 3 yew trees here. The walk to the bank is good.
Score 7/10
South of Edgeville
The only remaining good spot to cut in f2p. It only has 2 trees so waiting times are long. The walk to the bank is short. In p2p this spot is almost empty at all time.

The road to 99 woodcutting is long and hard. Use these tricks to get the maximum out of woodcutting and to make it as easy as possible.
Tip1: Use a rabbit foot! You will get more bird nests when equipped! You will need 24 Hunter to wear it.
Tip2: Use Boots of lightness and other weight decreasing items. This is especially good for long bank runs.
Tip3: Get a friend to race you to 99 Wooductting!
Tip4: Start a thread on the official Runescape forums in the Goals and Achievement section. Look at some other threads as an example! Write down your progress and get supporters!
Tip5: Don’t waste your time getting lumberjack clothing (+1 exp per willows)! The time you waste on getting the clothing can better be spend on cutting trees!
Tip6: Use a pestle and mortar to crush all of your bird nest. You can sell them for 1k each on the Runescape forums!
Tip7: Sell your tree seeds for giant amounts of cash! Did you know that papaya tree seeds are 30k each?
Tip8: Listen to some music or watch TV while woodcutting!
Tip9: NEVER think about doing a minigame or another skill.
Tip 10: If you can afford a dragon axe buy it. It cuts up to 20% faster!
Well this is why you are getting 99 woodcutting…
