I'm guessing that cooking apples is meant to make a profit? At least, that's what I can make of it...

He means that if you go to the cooking guild and collect cooking apples from the second and third floor they sell for 600gp each meaning about 18k a trip.

It's not amazing money but it's ok for somebody starting out runescape.
