Legend
F2p - Free to play. A none-member.
Pkers - Player Killers. A person or a group of people who search throughout the wilderness to kill other players.
Ksers - Kill Stealers. Low people who run in and attack the monster that you have been waiting for, causing you to have to keep on waiting.
Exp. - Experience points. These determine your skill levels.
Combat
Introduction to Combat
i. Combat is arguably the heart and soul of Runescape. This skill is simply fighting and killing a monster, either for it's drop or for just the exp. points. There are 3 forms of Combat in Runescape, Ranged (bow and arrows), magic (runes) & the very common warrior. Many people have found that killing various monsters around Runescape can become very rewarding. I would only suggest you use this skill to earn money if you have a high enough combat level (70+ recommended). The monsters that are most likely to drop good rewards tend to be quite scarce throughout Runescape, and where there are a decent amount of the monster, there will most likely be other players after them also. This can also cause alot of Ksers.
Training Combat
ii. 1 - 15 ~ I suggest killing goblins just East of Lumbridge castle, or to the Goblin Village North-West of Falador. Whilst killing these Goblins, remember to bury their bones for Prayer exp.
16 - 30 ~ For this part you should head to the Barbarian Outpost between Varrock and Falador. This is a good place to train as in the pub, there is a respawn of cooked meat.
31 - 50 ~ Now head to edgeville dungeon and follow the cave all the way until you are face to face with some ugly looking Hill Giants. These are great to train on for all levels as they offer good exp. and also they drop Big Bones which could come in handy for your Prayer. They also drop steel and iron items. Beware of Ksers with Hill Giants as many people are after their bones.
51 - 70 ~ In this section I would advise you to kill Moss Giants. These are very similar to Hill Giants except they are a much higher Combat level and drop better rewards. These can be found out in the wilderness, but I don't suggest you go there because of the danger of Pkers. I suggest you go down the Varrock sewers (entrance is East of Varrock castle) and follow the cave to the very end until you find Moss Giants. Remember, bury those Big Bones!
70 - 85 ~ Go down to Karajma (30gp to cross on the boat), and head down into the depths of the volcano. Once in there, locate the Lesser Demons and kill some. These drop good rewards such as there precious Rune Medium Helmet. Once you run out of food in the volcano, if you've been collecting your drops of money from the Lessers then you can travel to the General store on Karajma and purchase more food from there.
85+ ~ From now on you have a choice, you can either continue to kill the innocent Lesser Demons, or go and prove yourself against the almighty Greater Deamons at the very tip of the wilderness. You're all alone out there, no shop to get your food from, just you and mighty Greaters. Oh, and don't forget the frequent Pkers.
Good Luck with the training!
Combat
iii. I'm now assuming your Combat level is above that of 70. To earn money from killing monsters, I suggest you either work on Moss Giants or Lesser Demons. To kill Moss Giants, go to the dungeon North-West of Varrock. I suggest you only pick up their Big Bones and any armour over steel. And also, pick up all the Nature Runes that they drop. You can sell your Big Bones for over 300gp each and you can sell everything else to a General Store or High Alchemy it. With the Lesser Demons, same applies. Pick up anything over steel. Remember to collect all the money the Lesser Demons drop, trust me, your money pile builds up fast when collecting money from Lesser Demons.
Mining
Introduction to Mining
iv. Arr Mining, one of the best money makers there is in Runescape. It's also one of my personal favourites, i actually enjoy mining. Mining is very easy to begin. Mining also has a branch out of it, Smithing, but I will go into that further on in my guide. There are many places to mine in Runescape but some are simply more convenient than others.
Training Mining
v. 1 - 20 ~ Simply power mine copper ore or tin ore in the Dwarven Mine, West of the Barbarian Outpost. Once you have a full load just drop it, never store your ore when training Mining.
21+ ~ Mining Iron is the way to go, it's easy to mine! You get 35 exp. per iron ore you mine, you can get it in one hit (well after some training) and it respawns extremely quick!
Mining
vi. Making money from Mining is actually quite easy, once you know all the right moves. Like I said in 'Mining Training', mining Iron is the way to go. Aswell as all the other reasons I gave in that area of this guide, they also sell for 100gp each, sometimes even more if you find the right buyer. For lower level miners, i suggest mining Rune Essence, which can access only after completing the Rune Mysteries quest. If you mine Rune Essence, then I strongly suggest using the Rune Essence mines South of the East Varrock bank. Use Aubury to teleport to them. Rune Essence can and should be sold for 30-35gp each. So if you mine 1k Essence, then that's 30-35k. Easy! There's also Coal, but this isn't to great unless you don't mind spending alot of time in the Mining Guild. Coal can be sold for 150-200gp each if you find the right buyer. Mithril ores should be mined in the Mining Guild, and these can be sold for 200-400gp each depending on the amount of them you have. These are hard to obtain as they respawn very slowly. Adamantite ores are very hard to get, if you are trying to get these, go to the depths of the Lumbridge Swamps, and mine the 2 or 3 that are there and switch worlds to find more there. These can be sold for 800-1k each. And last, but certainly not least, the almight Runite ores. These can be sold for 10k-15k. That is an ubelievable amount for just one ore! To mine these, you're going to have to travel into the depths of the wilderness, be aware that there are Pkers out there. Mine the 3 rocks there, then quickly log off, and switch worlds (go to worlds with less people on it. Less people = less Pkers). As soon as you have your 28 Runite ores, travel back to Edgeville bank, store them and return.
Smithing
Introduction to Smithing
vii. Smithing is a branch out of Mining, without Mining there would be no Smithing, which means no armour or weapons. There would be no Runescape. There are actually two parts to Smithing. Those two are smelting and smithing. Smelting is where you take ores to a furnace and smelt them into bars. Then these bars are smithed into armoury or weaponry using an anvil.
Smithing
viii. Making money from Smithing is a method that I actually strongly suggest using. If you have money in the first place, then this method is good for you; buy your Iron ores, then whatever amount of Iron ores you have bought, you should buy double that amount in Coal. So if you've bought 1k Iron ore for 100gp each and 2k coal for 150gp each, thats 400k you've spent. Then smelt all of those into Steel Bars at Al Kharid furnace as this is next to a bank. Now you should have 1k Steel Bars and these can be sold for 600gp each, earning you an easy 200k (600k - 400k = 200k). Of course for the ultimate Smither, there is the Rune! If you can mine Rune, however many you have, you'll need 8 times more in Coal. Once you smith them into Rune Bars, they can be sold for 10-15k! If you want to smith these Rune Bars into weaponry or armour, then make Axes, Scimitars, Battle Axes and Kites as these all seem to have a good market.
Runecrafting
Introduction to Runecrafting
ix. Runecrafting, slow, painfully boring, but worth while in the end. Runecrafting consists of you taking a talisman or tiara to it's corresponding alter. Make sure you have your Rune Essence with you. Then, using the magical powers of the alter, you can change your Rune essence into the rune of the Alter.
Runecrafting
x. Making money from Runecrafting is about as fun as counting grass in a field or watching paint dry. I suggest you craft air runes only because they're close to a bank (Falador East bank), and you can get more runes according to your Runecrafting level quicker than any other rune. So start off buy buying, or mining, Rune Essence. I buy it for 30gp each so I suggest buying maybe 5k of it. When I did this I bought 75k Rune Essence and this was so stupid of me so keep it small. Then craft this into Air Runes and if your Runecrafting level is high enough you will make quite a bit of money. Sell your Air Runes for 20-25gp each.
Fishing
Introduction to Fishing
xi. Fishing, like Mining, is one of my personal favourites for making money. The concept of fishing is very simple, just take the appropiate equiptment to a fishing spot, fish what you need and then you're done. A branch out of Fishing is Cooking, which I am not going to go into later on because I don't feel this brings in money. I think this actually can loose you money as people want raw fish so they can get Cooking exp. Fishing is good for money as people want fish for cooking exp. & also so they can Pk or train their Combat against various monsters.
Fishing
xii. To make money from fishing, I advise you to fish for Lobsters. These are, believe it or not, more sought after than Swordfish. Take about 5k with you & 1 lobster cage and head to Karajma Docks. Use your money to cross between Karajma and Port Sarim. Store all the Lobsters you catch in Draynor Village bank. Once you have a sufficient amount of Lobsters (say over 500?) then you can begin to sell them. Raw lobster sell for 300-350gp each whereas cooked lobsters sell for only 300gp each, so if you want cooking exp, you'll get less money.
Woodcutting
Introduction to Woodcutting
xiii. Welcome to the wonderful world of woodcutting. Next to mining and fishing this is my favourite money maker. Woodcutting has an extremely simple concept, all you must do is take a hatchet and chop at a tree. Come on people, how simple can it get? People use logs to either burn or to fletch but out of them two, only fletching brings in the money.
Training Woodcutting
xiv. 1 - 20 ~ Cut normal logs from the trees West of Lumbridge Castle in the Draynor Forest.
21 - 35 ~ Cut oaks, there are 4 of them just East of Draynor bank.
36 - 70 ~ Willows are definitely the best thing to cut! I strongly advise you to cut the South-West of Draynor bank. It's literally a 5 second walk to the bank if oyu wish to store them.
71+ ~ Yews are an okay way to go, but I actually advise you to stick with the Willows, they're quicker exp. and they have a faster respawn rate compared to Yew trees. If you want to cut yews, then cut the 3 trees just South of Falador East bank. There are the 2 obvious Yew trees by the enterance to Falador but also 1 hidden away just East of the entrance to Falador. If you wish to carry on with Willows which I advise then see above (36 - 70) for advice on where to cut.
Woodcutting
xv. Making money from Woodcutting is very simple. The 3 best trees you should cut are Normal, Willow and Yew. To cut normal logs, head to a dense forest. I suggest the forest just East of Draynor so you can store the logs in the bank there. Normal logs can be sold for 30gp each which isn't bad except finding a buyer is very hard. Willows logs should be cut also next to Draynor bank, as it is a very short walk and they are quite easy to chop. The only downside of it though is that they only sell for 30-35gp each. Okay, lastly are Yew trees. If i was you I would cut these just South of Falador East bank and sell them at Varrock West bank. There is always a buyer for Yew logs in the South-West corner of the West bank in Varrock. They can sell for 250-350gp each, so if you cut 1k then that's a well earned 350k there. Now, how simple was that my friend?
Merchanting
What is Merchanting?
xvi. Merchanting can seem to be very easy but is actually tricky. Once you get your head around all the scams and other troubles out there, merchanting can become very easy, like taking candy from a baby. Merchanting in simple terms is selling on something to earn money. There are two ways of doing this, either selling on something that you personally make for a large profit, or buying an item cheap off another player and then selling it off to a different player for a more expensive price hence making a profit. An example of each would be you mine iron ore and coal and then smelt them into steel bars and sell those bars for 600gp each. An example of the second method of Merchanting could be, lets say you buy full rune for 180k and then sell it on for 220k. Merchanting can actually be a very slow process in which to make money but is probably the best way of making it. Some people have connections and get people to get their primary goods and pay them people an average price for their goods, then do the easy bit themselves by making the primary goods into secondary goods and sell it for a good profit. This actually makes you loose out on some of your earning, but it saves a lot of time. The best places to merchant:
- East of the West bank in Varrock, place to merchant armour.
- North of the West bank in Varrock, place to merchant discontinued items and other rares.
- Around the East bank in Falador, place to merchant mining goods.
- Draynor bank, place to merchant woodcutting items.
